April 30, 2009Community activists on all sides of the issue are confused after two conflicting Voter Information Guides were circulated just before the November 2008 election, both of which recommended Congresswoman Laura Richardson for office in California's 37th Congressional District. A "Voter Information Guide for Democrats" was automatically sent to Democrats in the district recommending its stance on particular issues and public offices. Likewise, a "California Voter Guide" labeled "Attention: Republicans" was sent out with it's conservative stance on issues and public offices. Each flyer recommended opposite positions on Proposition 8: "Yes" on the flyer to Republicans and "No" on the flyer to Democrats. Richardson's name was on both of them just below John McCain / Sarah Palin on one (Republican) and below Barack Obama on the other (Democrat). The confusion arose when Democratic Congresswoman Laura Richardson paid to be included on the Republican flyer which strongly recommended voting "Yes" to "RESTORE TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE". Richardson appeared on the Voter Information Guide for Democrats with the statement, "PROTECT EVERYONE'S RIGHTS. STOP PROPOSITION 8".
Richardson's Two-faced behavior on such an important issue as same-sex marriage is consistent with her voting 50 billion dollars for George Bush's war in Iraq in November 2007, after pledging publicly in a televised debate in Fall 2007 to "not vote for one more penny" for fighting the war in Iraq. After Richardson's own words capture such an unethical attitude: "You gott'a do what you gott'a do". (videos of both to appear shortly in right pane and on You Tube.)
